I’ve been playing with a new all women big band, the Sisters of Swing. It’s great to play in such a large band and they’re a fab bunch of gals. Here’s the link http://www.sistersofswing.co.uk We’ve got some gigs coming up including a fund-raiser for Afghan Heroes and a slot at the North Bristol Arts Trail.

Went to a completely amazing gig by Denys Baptiste at St George’s last week. His quartet played tunes from the new album, ‘Identity by Subtraction’ followed by a jaw-dropping rendition of John Coltrane’s ‘Love Supreme’. Sorry but you had to be there…

The next Blowout Student Gig is scheduled for Friday 6th May. I’m hoping to take my students over to Bath to perform ‘Mo’ Better Blues’ by Bill Lee (Spike Lee’s Dad).

I’ve recently been lucky enough to catch a couple of fantastic gigs in the Colston Hall Foyer featuring Craig Crofton and John Pratt. It’s a great performance space which has the added bonus of being child-friendly.

One of my students is hosting the mini sax massive at function rooms where he lives. It’s great that something has come out of the Sax Massive event and that more people are getting involved. It seems to be going very well and they may be doing some gigs for charity very soon! Do contact me if you want to get involved with this group and I’ll put you in touch with the organiser.

Just read that Craig Crofton is hoping to keep the Sax Massive group together. The gig at Colston Hall was amazing and some great footage on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXHF6t8J9S0
It was a great experience to be part of such a big group and I’m looking forward to meeting up again for more of the same!
